Find your own style

Updated: Nov 2, 2020

Copy pasting the style of your favourite player doesn't work in tennis, because no two bodies work the same way. A carbon copy will never be an original. So do not compare yourself with other players.

What you need to do is find the technique which fits you well and work with your biomechanics.

A tennis coach can help you individualise your technique during your training sessions.

Of course, the technique evolves with time, together with your body and your experience. If you practice more at the gym, for example, you will observe changes in your game, and you'll need to make some adjustments according to the new power and speed parameters.

A phone always helps

To study your game more efficiently, ask someone to record your playing, then watch the game to see your shots and your mistakes. You could also ask for opinions from different coaches.

Do not delete the video recording. After a while, do a second recording of your game and compare the two to see your evolution.

You can also study your game with a tennis fitness coach, who will advice you on what kind of exercises would benefit your technique.

Useful tips

  • Try to have a good balance between the shots from both sides.

  • Practice a little bit more the weak shots, Your opponent will eventually discover them and then put pressure on your game.
